The brief
OTIF Ventures manages the Oxford Technology and Innovations EIS Fund, investing in early-stage spinouts from UK research universities across life sciences, deep tech, and physical sciences. The portal replaces almost every manual process in the investor relations workflow — from applications and document distribution to portfolio tracking and compliance.
What I built
Each investor logs in and sees their own portfolio — every tranche, every silo, purchase cost, current value, net return, percentage change. Investors can drill down into individual company pages with team information, sector details, and exit history.
New investment applications are completed online with multi-step forms covering personal details, bank information, tax status, and investment-specific data. Investors can save drafts and return later. Electronic signing is handled via an API integration. The admin side tracks every application from submission through to completion, with CSV exports for processing.
Categorised document library — newsletters, personal statements, company reports, EIS certificates, Key Information Documents, Investment Memorandums. Access is controlled per-investor: some documents are public, others are restricted by fund, tag, or individual. No more emailing hundreds of PDFs.
New investors register online with a controlled onboarding flow that includes a waiting period before access to investment opportunities. Every registration attempt is logged with full audit data and CSV export capability.
Investors manage their own contact details, bank information, tax data, and marketing preferences. Changes flow through to the admin side automatically.
Financial services portals have no margin for error on security. The portal uses encrypted storage for sensitive data, role-based access controls, unified login error messages that don't reveal account existence, and protected document serving that validates permissions on every download. Digital signature support is integrated for jurisdictions that require it.
The result
The portal handles hundreds of active investors across dozens of fund structures spanning biotech, medical devices, quantum computing, software, and materials science — covering EIS and SEIS tax-advantaged schemes. What used to require dozens of emails and manual processes now runs itself.
